"While fashion trends are the result of economic, social, and historical outputs, interior design trends are the result of fashion trends. Often runways define what’s next in interior design."

What is the influence of fashion on interior design and bedding trends?

New York Fashion Week in Fall 2022 featured the hottest looks of Spring/Summer 2023 season. Kerry Pieri of Harper's Bazaar writes about recurring motifs throughout popular shows including looks from designers such as Coach, Fendi, Collina Strada, Sergio Hudson, Gabriela Hearst, Khaite, Ulla Johnson, Carolina Herrera, and many more. Among the predicted trends for Spring 2023 were swaths of lime green, mermaid-inspired silhouettes, updated crochet, and ethereal florals

These 2023 Spring/Summer fashion trends have already begun to filter into the bedding trends of the year. The latest collection from Yves Delorme features luxurious floral bedding including turquoise quilts, lime green duvets, and flowery decorative pillows. Ann Gish's latest collection features a gorgeous "Ribbon Knit" pattern that makes up elevated crocheted throws and pillows. Designer's Guild's newest creations include several lime green throw pillows. Ann Gish's collaboration with the Met (The Met x Ann Gish) features oceanic symbols and luxurious shimmery quilts that remind us of the mermaid trend on the runway. These bedding trends are long-lasting and luxurious.

Some say that fashion trends act as a mirror to society. If this is true, bedding trends and home design trends act more like a painting of what's shown in the mirror. Interior design and bedding trends are reflective of society, but they are less ephemeral than fashion. The long-lasting nature of bedding trends means that it is always worthwhile investing in stylish duvets, pillows, and sheets that you love with the understanding that they will remain on trend for years to come. Let's explore some of our favorite pieces from the runway and their interior design and bedding trend counterparts.

Collina Strada's SS23 Show took place at the Naval Cemetary Landscape which houses a monarch butterfly preserve. The show featured designer Hillary Taymour's playfulness but with a "tender touch" and a "mix of romanticism" as described by Laia Garcia-Furtado for Vogue Runway. What better way to bring romanticism to your home than with luxury french bedding from Yves Delorme? Yves Delorme's newest collection celebrates the flowery bedding trend with the latest in floral duvets, quilts, and pillow shams. Explore romantic blue bedding with the Triomphe Fjord Bedding by Yves Delorme in a gorgeous turquoise 300 thread count sateen. This french-made bedding is made with 100% long-staple organic cotton. The stylish turquoise color perfectly captures the whimsy of this season's bedding trends. If you prefer a luxury quilt with a more colorful pattern, the Eaux Bedding by Yves Delorme has a beautiful watercolor petal design on gorgeous turquoise sheeting.  Crochet has been trending in fashion for a bit over a year. The knit has been spotted on celebs from Hailey Bieber and Chrissy Teigen to Selena Gomez, Bella Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski. The crochet trend doesn't seem to be fading anytime soon and is predicted to remain strong through summer 2023. At New York Fashion Week Fall 2022, the crochet style was featured in shows by designers such as Khaite, Puppets and Puppets, Gabriela Hearst, Proenza Schouler, Ulla Johnson, and Carolina Herrera. Now, Ann Gish is making crochet pillows and crochet throws a bedding trend. The crochet bedding by Ann Gish is called the "Ribbon Knit" collectionAnn Gish's Ribbon Knit pillows are hand-knit and hand-knotted with gorgeous silky ribbons. Their texture and luxury feel turn the crochet style into an elevated, more long-lasting bedding trend. The throw pillows are available in a rectangular lumbar style or a square decorative pillow. The crochet throws and pillows will add texture and style to any living room or bedroom. Ribbon Knit is available in neutral tones such as charcoal, cream, mink, topaz, and pale khaki. It is also made in trendy brighter shades including thistle purple, turquoise, lilac, blue, azure, moss green, and metallics like silver and gold. Crochet for the home is a bedding trend you won't want to miss out on!

Lime green was featured heavily on the NYFW 2022 runway this year. Designers such as Aliétte, Coach, Fendi, and Collina Strada used bright lime green in their shows. Above, Winnie Harlow is pictured in a lime green suit for Sergio Hudson. Bright and bold lime green is also making a statement as a bedding trend. Designer's Guild's Blengdale Lime and Azure Moss Decorative Pillow ground the bright green in a checkerboard of neutral greens and azure blues. A Designer's Guild Throw Pillow is the perfect addition to a couch and adds a natural-looking texture to any room.

Ann Gish's latest collection is also full of the lime green bedding trend. Explore Ann Gish's iconic Ribbon Knit pillows and throws in the shade "moss green" for a combination of our favorite bedding trends: lime green and crochet! Lime green is also featured as a bedding trend in unique patterns by Ann Gish. The Majorelle Leaf Throw features a gorgeous tropical forest pattern in lime green. The lime green bedding trend continues in The Met x Ann Gish collection. The Met x Ann Gish Collection is inspired by renowned collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with influences from art, culture, and history. The designs celebrate the Egyptian, Medieval, American, and Ancient Near East collections at The Met. What is a better predictor of bedding trends than history? The luxury duvets and lumbar pillows of The Met x Ann Gish's Horus Nile Bedding are inspired by Horus, the ancient Egyptian falcon god. They feature a gorgeous abstract feather design with eye-catching intricate detail. These feathers are striped in turquoise and, you guessed it, our favorite bedding trend color, lime green

The upcoming Little Mermaid film featuring Halle Bailey as Ariel has inspired a wave (no pun intended) of mermaid-inspired style. Mermaidian looks were featured on the NYFW runways from designers such as Fendi, Simon Miller, Brandon Maxwell, LaQuan Smith, and Collina Strada. These looks are fun, colorful and feature lots of texture and sheer layers. Kerry Pieri of Harper's Bazaar writes: "think: seafoam green, light purple, and easy pink, sometimes all at once. It also has a decidedly Y2K bent, because we just can't quit that era of feminine delights." Unsurprisingly, bedding trends have followed suit. Ann Gish's latest collection is reminiscent of the mermaid bedding trend in that it is rich with shimmery tones, oceanic designs, and blue textiles. Take Ann Gish's Linea Gracious Blue Quilted Coverlet Set. The lovely blue sheen of the quilted coverlets looks like the ocean and will add a mermaid-esque flair to any room.
